About the module
This module focuses on disinformation, information integrity and public trust in the EU integration process. In recent years, public skepticism toward EU membership has remained significant across the Western Balkans, especially among younger citizens and audiences exposed to politically influenced or low-trust media environments.
The module will explore how disinformation narratives influence citizens’ perceptions of the EU, the enlargement process and democratic institutions. These narratives often portray the EU as distant, biased or inconsistent, contributing to uncertainty, citizen fatigue and distrust toward reforms and the accession process.
Participants will examine how disinformation spreads through social media, partisan media outlets and coordinated online manipulation, and how such content can weaken public confidence in democratic institutions and EU-related reforms.
Using recent regional evidence and public opinion trends as a starting point, the module will support participants in critically analysing misinformation, identifying harmful narratives and developing strategies for more transparent, fact-based and responsible communication about EU reforms.
Through expert input, practical examples and interactive discussion, participants will reflect on the role of civil society, journalists/media professionals and youth in strengthening information integrity, improving public communication and rebuilding trust in the EU integration process.
Who can apply
This module is intended for representatives of civil society organisations, journalists and media professionals, and youth interested in disinformation, media literacy, public communication, information integrity, democratic resilience and EU integration.
What participants will gain
Participants will gain practical knowledge and tools to recognise and respond to disinformation, critically assess information sources, communicate EU reforms more clearly and contribute to evidence-based public dialogue.
