Module 5: Digital Transformation and Innovation

About the module
This module focuses on digital transformation and innovation as key drivers of North Macedonia’s EU accession process, competitiveness, transparency and citizen empowerment. Aligning with the EU’s Digital Decade targets and the Western Balkans Digital Agenda represents an important opportunity for institutional modernization, economic growth and improved access to public services. The module will address the main digital reform challenges identified in the reform process, including data governance, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, research and innovation capacity, e-governance, broadband connectivity and digital skills. Special attention will be given to the need for stronger institutional coordination, better implementation of the national Digital Transformation Strategy, and closer cooperation between research institutions, start-ups, government and civil society.

Participants will discuss how digital transformation can support democratic resilience, transparency, public participation and more efficient institutions. The module will also explore how digital innovation can be made more inclusive, ensuring that citizens, especially youth and vulnerable groups, benefit equally from the opportunities of the digital economy. Through expert input, interactive discussion and practical exercises, the module will help participants understand how civil society, journalists/media professionals and youth can monitor digital reforms, promote innovation, communicate digital transformation in an accessible way, and contribute to the protection of digital rights in the EU accession context.

Who can apply

This module is intended for representatives of civil society organisations, journalists and media professionals, and youth interested in digital transformation, innovation, e-governance, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, digital rights, start-ups, research and EU integration.

What participants will gain

Participants will gain practical knowledge and tools to better understand, monitor and communicate digital transformation and innovation reforms. They will also strengthen their capacity to promote inclusive digital development, protect digital rights, support transparency and contribute to evidence-based public dialogue on North Macedonia’s digital reform agenda and EU accession process.
