Module 6: Foreign Policy, Security and Strategic Resilience

About the module

This module focuses on foreign policy, security and strategic alliances as important dimensions of North Macedonia’s EU accession process. Alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy is a key indicator of a candidate country’s commitment to shared European values, regional stability and the principles of EU external action. The module will address the main challenges related to foreign and security policy alignment, including exposure to disinformation, hybrid influence, geopolitical pressures, limited institutional coordination and the need for stronger strategic communication. Special attention will be given to North Macedonia’s progress in aligning its foreign policy positions with the EU, while also examining the risks and vulnerabilities that may affect public understanding and trust.

Participants will discuss why foreign and security policy alignment matters for the country’s EU path, regional stability and international credibility. The module will also explore how disinformation and hybrid threats can influence public opinion, weaken democratic resilience and create confusion around North Macedonia’s strategic orientation. Through expert input, interactive discussion and practical exercises, the module will help participants understand how civil society, journalists/media professionals and youth can contribute to informed public debate, monitor foreign and security policy developments, strengthen strategic communication and support resilience against disinformation and external influence.

Who can apply

This module is intended for representatives of civil society organisations, journalists and media professionals, and youth interested in foreign policy, security, strategic communication, disinformation, hybrid threats, regional stability, EU external action and EU integration.

What participants will gain

Participants will gain practical knowledge and tools to better understand, monitor and communicate foreign and security policy reforms and developments. They will also strengthen their capacity to promote informed public dialogue, counter disinformation, support democratic resilience and contribute to a clearer understanding of North Macedonia’s strategic alignment with the European Union.
