Lura Pollozhani

Lura Pollozhani is a researcher and policy advisor specializing in politics and international relations, with a particular focus on citizenship, social movements, and democratic consolidation in the Western Balkans. She holds a PhD in Law and Politics from the University of Graz, Austria. She earned an MSc in European Studies from the London School of Economics, where her research centered on integrating stability into the EU's conflict management strategies, specifically examining Macedonia.

Her extensive professional experience spans academia, international organizations, and governmental advisory roles. Currently, Lura serves as a post doctoral project researcher at the University of Graz, contributing to significant Horizon projects such as CONNEKT, addressing violent extremism in MENA and Balkan societies, and REUNIR, focusing on future-proofing EU security and enlargement policies.

Lura's expertise has also solidified in governmental circles, notably through her role as an advisor to the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, where she guided international cooperation and NATO accession-related reforms. She has previously worked as Assistant External Engagement Officer for UNHCR in North Macedonia, developing strategies to enhance advocacy and coordination with governmental institutions and stakeholders.

As a passionate advocate for social justice and women's empowerment, Lura co-founded the Stella Network, aiming to mentor women and girls and promote mentoring across various sectors. Additionally, her involvement with esteemed groups and organizations such as the Balkans in Europe Policy Group and the Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe highlights her ongoing commitment to policy analysis and regional cooperation.

Lura has published in academic journals and in magazines and newspapers, addressing diverse issues pertaining to contemporary political developments in the Western Balkans. Her articles have appeared in respected journals such as Third World Quarterly, East European Politics, and Women’s Studies International Forum.
