From Theory to Practice: Macroeconomic Stabilisation Policies and the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics
High-Level Policy Dialogue, Skopje, November 6, 2026
Today, Strategers Institute hosted a High-Level Policy Dialogue as part of the Strategers Discussion Series, bringing together distinguished representatives of national institutions, academia, the financial sector, international financial institutions and diplomatic missions:
Народна банка на Република Северна Македонија/National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia
Фискален Совет на Република Северна Македонија| Fiscal Council of Republic of North Macedonia
The World Bank Group
EBRD
Embassy of Sweden in North Macedonia
US Embassy
The event was inspired by the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics, awarded to Robert E. Hall and Michael Woodford for their contributions to the microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation. Their pioneering research demonstrates how the decisions and expectations of households and businesses shape economic outcomes and how well-designed monetary and fiscal policies can mitigate economic fluctuations.
The discussion highlighted three key priorities:
🔹 Effective policy coordination – Strengthening fiscal and monetary policy responses to economic shocks while safeguarding macroeconomic stability.
🔹 Evidence-based policymaking – Applying modern economic research, analytical models and empirical evidence to improve policy decisions and outcomes.
🔹 Institutional capacity and convergence – Strengthening institutional credibility, policy communication and economic resilience to support sustainable growth and European integration.
Macroeconomic stability is essential, but it is not an end in itself. The ultimate objective is to create conditions for higher productivity, stronger competitiveness, sustainable growth and improved living standards.
Our sincere appreciation to all distinguished participants for their valuable insights, constructive exchange and contributions to a meaningful policy dialogue: Abdylmenaf Bexheti, Sultanija Bojceva Terzijan, Gligor Bishev, Zoran Stavreski, Nikola Popovski, Aleksandar Stojkov, Fatmir Besimi, Nina Fiti Nedelkovska, Elisabet Frisk, Fatih Türkmenoğlu, Jordan Damcevski and Marko Josimovski.
